For this addition of my blog, I am going to share some thoughts about what I enjoy about owning and operating Fall Creek Skin and Health Clinic here in Rexburg, Idaho. I don’t know if I have ever told the story of my upbringing, but to leave it short, I was raised in Jackson (Jackson Hole to those who are not from there) Wyoming. My Dad owned a tourist business that was a gas station and convenience store with a car wash, but we also sold fireworks and ice, quite the combination. But what I learned from working in this business was that I loved meeting, helping, and talking to people. As I tried to figure out what to do for a career while in college, I kept thing something would fall in my lap, like Mario Andretti would come through Jackson on vacation and somehow see my incredible talent riding my bicycle around the gas station and somehow he would know from that that I was also an incrdible racecar driver and then he would recruit me to race in the Indy 500 and Formula 1. Well, believe or not, that never happened! So I kept going to school and I think I talked about this in my first couple of blogs so I an not going to say more. What I do want to say is that I love what I do. I love when a low self-esteem patient comes in with bad acne. All the anti-depressants in the world would not help some of these kids, they have hair over their faces, their head is down, they let their moms do all the talking, and sometimes they are actually abusing drugs and alcohol. If they are motivated and have a desire to follow my instructions on how to care for their skin, I love to see the transformation of thier personalities as their skin starts to improve. I use a lot of Accutane or Isotretinoin, and it is a wonderful drug, obviously we are alway watching for potential side effects. I also love to treat people for skin cancer and to remove unwanted moles. I have written about these before, but I had pateint the other day who had a large unsightly mole on his face that had slowly grown over the past 4o years, he came in for something else but then asked if I could remove the mole. Five minutes later when the mole was gone, he looked the mirror and literally cried with joy wondering why he waited so long to have it removed. He paid cash for the procedure and has been back to remove several more since. I just came out of a room with a mother of 2 that just finished Accutane(she was on 2 form of birth control). Her before and after pictures are incredible, she told me I could put them on the website so hopefully you all can see them soon. She is so happy. These are some of the things I love about my job.
By the way, we are now owners of a motel and gas station at the same location as the gas station I grew up working in, it is call the Flat Creek Inn. It is one mile north of Jackson and has the most amazing view of the elk refuge and Sleeping Indain. Check out the webcam that I installed myself at flatcreekinn.com.
